Rugadh Naomh Columba/Colmcille i dTír Chonaill míle go leith bliain ó shin.

This is the 1500th anniversary of the birth of St Columba/Colmcille. In the Middle Ages, along with Patrick and Brigid he was honoured as one of Ireland’s three patron saints. In some ways he was the favourite – there is hardly a parish in Ireland that doesn’t have some story about him or some monument to his name.

Genuine information about his real life is scarce but the many legends testify to his popularity. This talk will reflect on that varied heritage and attempt to distinguish facts from fiction.
